The facilities were fine and nestled in an adorable community, which was an added surprise. However, there were some things that made my stay unpleasant: 1. I check in on 1/1, which was not a good idea because they were not properly staffed. For example, their restaurant was closed and the hot tub looked unclean. 2. Because the restaurant was closed, we had to go out for dinner. I wanted to eat at the hotel restaurant because the kids had just gotten out of the pool and it was winter in NY. The kitchen being closed was something I should have been told when I checked in. 3. On 1/2, the kitchen reopened, but breakfast ended at 10am. If breakfast ends before 11, they should tell guests that at check-in. I paid extra for the free breakfast option but ended up going to a local establishment instead because we missed “free” breakfast at the hotel. I paid about $65-75 for that breakfast for 4! I’m not saying to never go to this hotel, but I am saying don’t go on 1/1, and set the alarm for breakfast before 10 if you desire to eat breakfast there.

Stony Brook is a very very charming little town! We walked a bit through the park near Three Villages Inn after window shopping in the little shops area, and found a beautiful natural area you can take long hikes in

    I booked a room here for a friend's wedding.

I booked a room here for a friend's wedding. Everything about the place could have been better. There was no cold water. No heater except a propane fireplace which the smell is horrible. The lock on the door did not work. It locked us out of the room for more then an hour. No staff stays on the property so we had to wait outside in the cold for an employee to fix the door at 2am. Did not give us a refund of any kind. False promises by the staff.

    Old inn, location was fine.

Old inn, location was fine. Room was lovely, however the old brick stairs getting up to it were not - I couldn't carry my luggage up and lighting was poor and it felt treacherous. Lighting was poor overall outdoors and finding my way from cabins to main lobby was damp, dark and unsafe.

The location of this awesome little hotel is right by our beautiful Avalon Park, which already makes it a catch. I booked a room for my parents so they can come visit me here in Stony Brook. I have to say that the hosts are super friendly and my parents enjoyed their stay a lot. They have everything you could possibly need, beautiful, clean rooms with an awesome bathroom, a customizable breakfast offer and an open guest space you can use if you want to. I absolutely recommend this for a little getaway.

The Stony Brookside Inn was the perfect place to stay a couple of nights out in Long Island. Elyse and Marty were great hosts, and made sure we had what we needed. The breakfast was lovely - especially those egg cups! The inn is so charming and, even though we apparently stayed in the smallest room, it was perfectly comfortable, with a good bathroom and closet for stowing our cases. We would not hesitate to stay again.

The breakfast and the company during breakfast made this experience exceed my expectations. The location is idyllic and beyond tranquil for an area that is not completely remote. The respect for the environment and maintaining the ecological integrity is obviously of paramount importance. The stay here surpassed any antiseptic hotel experience one may be expecting.
